In your assigned teams, you need to do an assessment of the information technologies used within a company. First, your team needs to select a firm that everyone is interested in. This could be a small, medium, or large sized firm, in the for-profit or not-for-profit sectors, in any industry (e.g., retail, restaurant, pharmaceutical, transport, education, etc.). If you choose a large firm, you may (or may not) select a division within the firm.

You must then assess and evaluate its use of technologies including (but not limited to) hardware (mainframes, mini-computers, desktops & laptops) and software (desktop and laptop software, ERPs, SCM, CRM and BI), as well as hand-held devices (smart phones), point-of-sale technologies, web site(s), e-business activities, social media presence and use, and finally security and privacy.

The final (max. 10 pages – worth 10%) report must include a description of how the selected firm is using leveraging technology within its organization. If the company is using technology well, indicate why and provide recommendations on how to continue to improve on its use. If the company is not using technology well, provide recommendations on how the company could improve its use.

The 5 minute team presentation (max. 10 slides – worth 5%) will outline the key findings from the report. All team members must actively participate in this presentation.

Although both the preliminary report and the peer evaluation are not formally graded, failure to submit either of these on time will result in a penalty of 2% on the total of 15%.
